ST. LOUIS, MO – A hard chill greets the city this Thursday morning as frigid air tightens its grip across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois. Wind chills dip into the teens, and frosted windshields line I-64 and I-70 as the metro braces for another cold, quiet stretch—at least for now.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a weak disturbance is expected to cross the region late Saturday into early Sunday, bringing a chance of light snow or a wintry mix. Accumulations should stay minimal—generally under half an inch—but even that could cause slick spots on untreated roadways and bridges overnight.

Through Friday, skies remain mostly sunny but cold, with highs near 39°F. Lows will dip into the teens and lower 20s through the end of the week. Saturday’s system marks the next transition point: slightly warmer air may briefly nudge temperatures toward freezing before snow develops late.

Meteorologists caution that refreezing conditions could return early Sunday, creating black ice hazards for early travelers. After that, high pressure brings a gradual warm-up into early next week, with highs rebounding into the mid-40s by Tuesday.

Five-Day Outlook (St. Louis Metro):

  • Friday: High 39°F, sunny and calm.
  • Saturday: High 38°F, chance of late-day snow mix.
  • Sunday: High 33°F, partly cloudy with flurries early.
  • Monday: High 42°F, mostly sunny.
  • Tuesday: High 47°F, warmer and dry.
