ST. LOUIS, MO – A thick gray fog hangs low over the Mississippi River this morning, wrapping bridges, highways, and headlights in a muted haze. Traffic moves slowly along I-70 and I-55, where visibility dips to near zero in spots — a tough start to Thanksgiving travel week in the St. Louis metro.

The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 a.m. for eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois. Drivers are urged to use low beams, slow down, and watch for sudden reductions in visibility, particularly near rivers and open valleys.

By midday, the fog will lift, replaced by scattered showers and steady clouds. A few downpours may develop this afternoon as winds turn southerly, pushing temperatures near 60°F. Rain fades late Monday night, setting up a mild and partly sunny stretch through midweek.

Thanksgiving travelers can look forward to dry roads and clear skies by Thursday, with highs near 43°F and a light northwest breeze — crisp but pleasant for holiday gatherings.

The next weather system arrives late Friday with a small chance of rain and falling weekend temperatures.

Five-Day Outlook for St. Louis, MO–IL:

  • Tuesday: Partly cloudy, high 58°F.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 46°F.
  • Thanksgiving Day: Sunny, high 43°F.
  • Friday: Chance of rain, high 40°F.
