Columbia, Missouri – Holiday travel across northwest Missouri into west-central Illinois may take a wintry turn late Black Friday into Saturday as a fast-moving system brings the potential for light snow and slick roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, widespread precipitation will enter the region late Friday, with colder air in place across the northern tier of Missouri and western Illinois. Cities such as Columbia, Kirksville, and Quincy could see up to an inch of snow by Saturday morning, with the highest chances for wintry impacts along and north of a line from Hannibal to near Jacksonville, Illinois.
Roads could become slippery, especially early Saturday, as snow accumulates on untreated and elevated surfaces. Precipitation type may vary—some areas could see mixed rain and snow as temperatures hover near freezing.
The exact snow line remains uncertain, and forecasters are watching how far south colder air may push. Those traveling back from Thanksgiving gatherings or heading out for Black Friday deals should monitor conditions closely.
More winter weather advisories could be issued as the system develops.
