Kentucky – A sharp winter edge cuts through the Ohio River Valley as cold air deepens and skies turn restless. Streetlights catch drifting flakes late, and pavement cools fast, setting up slick spots where moisture lingers.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a light dusting of snow is possible late tonight into early Friday, mainly after midnight. Temperatures hover near freezing during any snow, limiting accumulation but increasing travel concerns. Any flakes that fall could briefly coat untreated roads before sunrise.

Paducah sits near the center of the concern zone, with southeast Illinois and southwest Indiana also affected. Drivers should watch bridges, overpasses, and ramps where surface temperatures fall quickest. Visibility stays mostly good, but even a thin coating can change stopping distance fast.

Friday turns milder by afternoon, with highs climbing toward the upper 40s as clouds increase. That warmth does not last. A reinforcing surge of polar air arrives Saturday, pulling highs back into the mid-30s. Winds ease, but the cold feels sharper after sunset.

Saturday night brings the coldest stretch. Lows drop near 14 degrees, allowing any daytime melt to refreeze. Flash freezing becomes a real concern into early Sunday, especially on secondary roads and parking lots. Sunday stays sunny yet cold, with highs near 31 and a bitter morning wind chill.

Looking ahead, early next week stays quiet but cold. Conditions slowly moderate by Tuesday, while meteorologists track rising precipitation chances midweek as a broader system approaches the central U.S.
