Paducah, KY – Dangerous heat continues to grip the Quad-State region Monday and Tuesday, with heat index values reaching up to 116°F in cities like Paducah, Cape Girardeau, and Murray. The National Weather Service warns of life-threatening conditions during peak hours, followed by a chance for isolated severe storms Wednesday night bringing damaging winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, heat index values will remain between 110° and 115° through Tuesday, with the worst conditions from noon to 8 p.m. A cold front arriving Wednesday night could bring isolated strong to severe storms to southern Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southwest Indiana. Winds could gust up to 60 mph, with a very low tornado risk.
Cities including Evansville (114°), Carbondale (112°), and Marion (113°) remain under heat advisories, and residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity, drink water frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Storm coverage will be isolated, but confidence is rising for damaging wind gusts as the main threat.
Relief arrives by Thursday, with highs falling back into the mid-80s across most of the region. Updates will continue as the storm threat nears Wednesday night.
