Paducah, Kentucky – Strong winds will ramp up quickly by late morning, creating hazardous travel and potential power issues across the Quad State region through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., covering western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana. Sustained south winds of 15 to 25 mph will increase throughout the day, with peak gusts reaching 40 to 45 mph.

Communities including Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Marion, and Evansville could see the strongest winds during the afternoon, especially in open and elevated areas. High-profile vehicles traveling along I-24, I-57, and I-69 may experience difficult handling, particularly on east-west routes.

Loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash cans, and decorations could be blown around, while tree limbs may snap and cause isolated power outages.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor belongings now and use caution when driving during peak wind hours. Winds are expected to gradually diminish after sunset, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
