St. Louis, Missouri – Temperatures across the St. Louis metro will soar to dangerous levels starting Saturday afternoon, with heat index values potentially reaching 109° through Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, an Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect for the region—including St. Louis City, St. Charles, Jefferson County in Missouri, and Jersey, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties in Illinois. The alert begins at 12 p.m. Saturday and extends through 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Cities including Alton, Belleville, Cahokia, Edwardsville, and downtown St. Louis could face several consecutive days of extreme heat. The combination of high humidity and air temperatures near triple digits will make it feel significantly hotter—raising the risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors, use air conditioning when possible, and check on elderly neighbors and those without shelter. Cooling centers are available, and those needing assistance can call 211 to find the nearest location.

Avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles under any circumstances. Even a few minutes can prove fatal in these conditions.

The heatwave is expected to persist through Tuesday night, with additional advisories possible if temperatures climb higher.
