Paducah, KY – A dangerous stretch of extreme heat continues across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and parts of southeast Missouri this week, with heat index values soaring to 107°F and little relief expected after sunset.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Friday for much of the region, including Jefferson, McCracken, Cape Girardeau, and New Madrid counties. Daily highs in the mid to upper 90s—paired with oppressive humidity—will create conditions that could quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Cities like Paducah, Carbondale, and Poplar Bluff may see “feels-like” temperatures over 105°F each afternoon. Nighttime lows will hover near 75°F, offering minimal overnight cooling. This marks the first prolonged stretch of dangerous heat this summer, and health impacts may worsen each day.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Schools, employers, and outdoor crews should take extra precautions this week.

The advisory covers multiple states and will remain in effect through at least Friday evening. Additional heat alerts may follow if conditions persist into the weekend.
