Springfield, MO – Missouri residents should prepare for a turbulent spring evening as strong thunderstorms threaten Springfield and surrounding areas along the I-44 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday. Wind gusts up to 40 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible. Some storms could produce damaging winds and heavy downpours, especially overnight. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware through early Sunday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Sunday morning before tapering off. Winds will shift northward, dropping temperatures to the upper 30s Sunday night. Monday will bring clearer skies and highs near 58°F. Winds will stay breezy, gusting up to 29 mph by midday.

The broader Ozarks region, including Christian, Greene, and Taney counties, remains under threat from rapidly changing conditions through midweek. Another strong system may arrive late Tuesday into Wednesday, increasing the risk for additional thunderstorms and showers. Temperatures will gradually climb into the upper 60s and low 70s by midweek.
