Kansas City, MO – A High Wind Warning is in effect for parts of eastern Kansas and central and northern Missouri from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday, with wind gusts expected to reach up to 70 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, sustained northwest winds of 30 to 45 mph will impact multiple counties, including Jackson, Platte, Clay, Johnson, and Buchanan in Missouri, as well as Johnson, Wyandotte, and Leavenworth in Kansas. Additional counties in Missouri, including Adair, Macon, and Saline, have also been upgraded from a Wind Advisory to a High Wind Warning.
The strong winds are expected to bring widespread power outages as trees and power lines may be knocked down. Residents should remain indoors, particularly in lower levels of their homes, and avoid windows. Travel could be hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and RVs.
Authorities advise motorists to drive with caution and secure loose outdoor items. Those in the affected areas should prepare for potential disruptions by charging devices and keeping emergency kits ready.
