Missouri Heat Wave: Temperatures Soar to 114°F Along I-44 Corridor

Springfield, MO – A prolonged period of excessive heat continues to impact Missouri, with areas north of I-44 facing extreme temperatures. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning through 7 PM today, predicting heat index values between 110 and 114 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the NWS, daily highs in the region will remain in the mid to upper 90s for the remainder of the week. On Wednesday and Thursday, heat index values are expected to reach between 100 and 110 degrees. Slightly cooler temperatures are forecasted for Friday and Saturday, providing some relief.

Residents are advised to stay indoors as much as possible, remain hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. The NWS emphasizes the risk of heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration under these conditions.

Nighttime temperatures will also stay warm, limiting the cooling effect. Lows will range from the upper 60s to low 70s. Today’s high in Springfield is forecasted at 96°F, with Thursday expected to reach 95°F and Friday slightly cooler at 90°F.
