Springfield, Missouri – Missourians are stepping into summer under dangerous heat as temperatures climb into the low 90s today, with stifling humidity pushing heat indices as high as 105° through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, Friday marks the beginning of an extended period of extreme heat across southern Missouri. Heat indices between 95° and 105° are expected daily from today through Wednesday, with little overnight relief as lows hover in the mid-70s. The hottest stretch of the year so far could increase the risk of heat-related illness for vulnerable groups.
Communities including Branson, West Plains, Lebanon, and Rolla will see sustained highs in the low-to-mid 90s, with low chances for afternoon pop-up storms. Roads may become dangerously hot, and outdoor laborers, seniors, and children are urged to take extra precautions. Hydrate often, stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, and check on neighbors and pets.
While skies remain mostly sunny and breezy through Monday, the heat will stay locked in, especially across I-44 corridors. No major front is expected to bring relief before late next week.
Heat advisories may be issued if conditions persist or worsen—stay tuned to NWS updates and limit non-essential outdoor activity.
