Springfield, Mo. – Missouri residents can expect sweltering afternoons with temperatures pushing into the 90s and isolated thunderstorms persisting through Sunday, creating potentially hazardous heat conditions across the Ozarks.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, heat indices will climb between 95 and 100 degrees through the weekend, with only a 20–40% chance of scattered afternoon storms each day. While many areas will remain dry, the heat and humidity will make conditions feel oppressive, especially between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

From Branson to Lebanon, the threat of pop-up storms could bring brief downpours and gusty winds, particularly on Friday and Saturday. Overnight lows will remain warm, hovering in the low to mid-70s, providing little relief from the daytime heat.

Drivers are urged to avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles and to stay hydrated when outdoors. Cooling centers in Greene, Christian, and Howell counties remain open. Those working outside should take frequent breaks and watch for signs of heat exhaustion.

The pattern of high heat and limited storm chances is expected to hold into early next week. Additional heat advisories may be issued if humidity increases further.

  • Thursday: Partly cloudy, high 94°, low 72°; heat index up to 100°
