Springfield, MO – A prolonged period of excessive heat continues across Missouri through the end of the week. Daily highs are expected to reach the middle to upper 90s, with heat index values soaring to between 105 and 110 degrees, peaking this afternoon. Slightly cooler temperatures are anticipated on Friday, though they will remain significantly high.

According to the US National Weather Service in Springfield, a heat advisory is in effect for the entire area through 9 p.m. today. The advisory warns that heat index values will remain in the dangerous range of 105 to 110 degrees, which could lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including drinking plenty of water, avoiding leaving children or pets in cars, and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Nighttime temperatures will offer limited relief, remaining warm and humid with lows ranging from 66 to 72 degrees.

The forecast for Springfield shows daily highs of 90 to 95 degrees through Tuesday, with a slight chance of rain today. Although Friday and Saturday will be marginally cooler, the heat index will continue to pose a risk. By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rise again, peaking at 95 degrees.
