St. Louis, MO – A Flood Watch remains in effect for St. Louis and surrounding areas until Sunday, April 6, as heavy rainfall is expected to cause local flooding. The National Weather Service issued the alert at 2:30 PM on Friday, April 4, highlighting the risk of hazardous conditions, including flood-prone areas near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall from recent storms combined with additional precipitation will lead to the potential for flash flooding through Saturday night. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and seek higher ground if necessary. Areas at risk include St. Louis, Clayton, Granite City, and nearby communities, particularly along riverbanks.
Saturday’s forecast for the region is marked by continued rain with an 80% chance of precipitation. Temperatures are expected to hover around 50°F, with winds reaching up to 24 mph. Rainfall may range from 1 to 2 inches, heightening the risk of flooding along streets and highways. Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare for possible evacuations or road closures.
Looking ahead, Sunday will see a break in the rain with partly cloudy skies and highs near 60°F. However, light showers are expected to return later in the day, and another round of rain is forecast for Wednesday, with a slight chance of thunderstorms.
For the full five-day forecast, temperatures will stabilize in the low 60s early next week, with sunny conditions by Tuesday. As spring storms continue, stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the wet weather.
