Springfield, MO – A flood watch is in effect this morning for areas east of Springfield as a narrow corridor of very heavy rainfall moves through the region. Thunderstorms are expected to bring 2 to 4 inches of rain, with localized amounts up to 6 inches, posing a significant risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas. The flood watch remains in effect until 3 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield, the highest risk for flash flooding is concentrated along I-44, including communities such as Lebanon and Osage Beach. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, with the NWS emphasizing, “Turn around, don’t drown!” Areas further west, including Springfield, are likely to experience less rainfall.

Looking ahead, Springfield will see a return to hot and dry conditions following today’s storms. The forecast for Thursday calls for sunny skies with a high of 94°F, followed by similarly warm temperatures through the weekend. Highs are expected to range from the upper 80s to low 90s, with minimal chances of rain after today, allowing the region to dry out.
