Springfield, Mo. – Roads across southwest Missouri could turn dangerous overnight as up to 6 inches of rainfall threatens to overwhelm streams and low-lying areas through Tuesday morning. Cities like Springfield, Branson, and Joplin are under a Flood Watch as storm after storm continues to roll through.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, multiple rounds of thunderstorms have already dropped 2 to 4 inches in parts of southeast Kansas and western Missouri. Additional rainfall between 1 and 3 inches is expected through early Tuesday, with isolated areas possibly receiving up to 6 inches.
Rural highways and low-lying roads — especially near the James, Big Piney, and Gasconade rivers — could become impassable overnight. Camden, Pulaski, and Texas counties are especially vulnerable, with fast runoff expected. Drivers are urged to avoid crossing flooded roads and monitor local alerts closely. Schools in flood-prone areas may see delays or closures Tuesday morning.
If you’re near flood-prone creeks or drainage areas, consider moving valuables to higher ground. Charge your devices in case of power outages, and stay off the roads if water starts to rise.
The Flood Watch remains in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday. Additional alerts may be issued if rainfall intensifies overnight.
