Springfield, MO – A flood warning has been issued for multiple counties in southwest Missouri, including Springfield, Nixa, and Ozark, following excessive rainfall on Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service issued the alert, which remains in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, between 1.5 and 4.5 inches of rain have fallen across the affected areas, causing streams to rise and flooding low-water crossings. Areas of concern include James River at Bell Ford Road, Bull Creek at Center Road, and Big Sugar Creek at Buzzard Glory Road. Affected cities also include Neosho, Branson, and Monett.

Local authorities have urged residents to avoid flooded roads and stressed the danger of driving through standing water, as flood-related vehicle deaths remain a significant risk. The Missouri Department of Transportation has reported that roads in the area are already experiencing flooding due to the heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel overnight, as conditions will be especially hazardous in the dark.
