Holliday, MO – A flood warning remains in effect through Friday evening as the Mid Fork Salt River near Holliday is expected to exceed flood stage late Wednesday and continue posing flood risks into the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the river measured 16.7 feet as of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters expect it to rise above the 17-foot flood stage by late Wednesday night, cresting at approximately 17.5 feet Thursday morning. Although levels are expected to fall below flood stage Thursday afternoon, river conditions will remain elevated, prompting continued concern through Friday evening.

Minor flooding is anticipated during this time, particularly near the State Highway A bridge, where water may leave the right bank. The warning covers areas surrounding Holliday in Monroe County, with officials monitoring for potential changes due to forecasted rainfall.

Residents are urged to exercise caution around flood-prone areas and avoid driving through water-covered roads. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains a critical safety message from local authorities, as most flood fatalities occur in vehicles.

The National Weather Service notes the forecast is based on current river observations and precipitation expected over the next 24 hours. Additional updates and real-time river data can be found at https://water.noaa.gov/wfo/lsx.

Communities in low-lying areas should remain alert as flood conditions may persist through Friday evening before water levels steadily recede into the weekend.
