St. Louis, MO – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for parts of Missouri and western Illinois, with conditions expected to persist through Tuesday evening. Strong winds and low relative humidity are creating a heightened risk for wildfires across central, southeast, and northeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the warning is in place until 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday. Affected areas include Boone, Moniteau, Cole, Osage, Callaway, Gasconade, Franklin, Crawford, Washington, Saint Francois, Dent, Iron, Madison, Reynolds, and several counties in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

Wind speeds are forecast to range from 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 17 percent in some regions, further increasing the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.

The National Weather Service warns that a combination of strong winds, dry fuels, and low humidity could lead to extreme fire behavior. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure flammable materials, and remain vigilant for any signs of wildfire activity.

Officials advise staying updated on local fire restrictions and emergency notifications. If a fire starts, report it immediately to authorities. The Red Flag Warning will remain in effect until conditions improve.
