A fire danger warning has been issued across southwest Missouri, with Springfield and the surrounding Ozarks region facing elevated fire risks today due to unseasonably warm, dry, and windy conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that outdoor burning is highly discouraged, especially near major roadways like US-65 and US-60, where dry conditions could spark rapidly spreading wildfires.

According to the NWS in Springfield, temperatures will range between 79°F and 87°F on Tuesday, creating the perfect conditions for fire hazards. Winds and dry air increase the risk of any small spark turning into an uncontrolled blaze. Outdoor activities that involve open flames, sparks, or improperly discarded cigarettes should be avoided. Fire authorities recommend staying vigilant, especially in grassy areas or on dry farmlands near highways.

Looking ahead, Missouri can expect a slight cooling trend. Wednesday will see temperatures between 74°F and 85°F, with mostly sunny skies. Thursday evening, a 20-60% chance of showers will move in, bringing some relief to the dry spell, and cooling temperatures slightly to highs in the mid-70s. Friday could see continued chances for rain, which would help reduce the fire risk further.

For now, residents and travelers are urged to remain cautious, especially in rural areas near Springfield and Ozarks highways. Monitor fire warnings closely and avoid risky outdoor activities until the weather improves later this week.
