Springfield, MO – Missouri residents are bracing for extreme heat today, with temperatures expected to range from 89 to 100 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, the heat index could soar between 96 and 108, making it the hottest day of the week.
A cold front is anticipated to bring some relief by midweek, especially to central Missouri. Wednesday’s temperatures will drop to a more manageable 82 to 93 degrees, with the warmest areas remaining in the southwest. Thursday and Friday will see similar highs, ranging from 87 to 99 degrees and 83 to 90 degrees respectively, with partly cloudy skies.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be partly cloudy, with highs of 80 to 88 degrees on Saturday and 81 to 89 degrees on Sunday. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms on Sunday, offering a potential cooldown.
The National Weather Service advises taking precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated, taking breaks in the shade or air-conditioned areas, and avoiding leaving children or pets in vehicles.
