St. Louis, MO – The coldest temperatures of the season are moving into eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois, with early-morning lows expected to plunge into the 20s by Monday, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

Sunday morning will start cold with temperatures near 33°F to 36°F across most of the metro area, but the deeper chill arrives overnight Sunday into Monday. Forecast lows for Monday morning include 21°F in Columbia, 23°F in St. Louis, and 20°F near Lake Ozark.

Forecasters warn that frost and freezing conditions will be widespread, potentially ending the growing season in areas that haven’t yet experienced a hard freeze. Residents should cover sensitive plants, protect outdoor pipes, and bring pets indoors to avoid the cold.

While Monday will stay chilly through the morning, a gradual warming trend is expected by midweek with highs climbing back into the 50s and 60s.
