Springfield, MO – A powerful cold front will sweep across the Missouri Ozarks tonight, plunging temperatures into the 20s and creating hazardous wind chills. Residents should prepare for lows reaching the teens, with wind chills dipping to single digits by Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s sunny high of 53°F will drop sharply after sunset. Overnight lows are expected to range between 21°F and 26°F, with northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph. The cold air will persist into Friday, keeping daytime highs near 35°F and wind chills below freezing throughout the day.

The weekend offers some relief as temperatures rise slightly. Saturday will be sunny with highs near 42°F, while Sunday could reach 48°F under mostly clear skies. However, nighttime lows will remain frigid, dipping into the 20s.

Looking ahead, a storm system is forecast to arrive Monday, bringing rain chances of 40% to 60%. While no snow is expected, wet roads could create slippery conditions for holiday travelers.

Residents are urged to bundle up, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors or pets during these frigid conditions. Drivers should be cautious of strong wind gusts, particularly on elevated roadways like I-44.

Stay tuned for updates and prepare for a frosty lead-up to the holiday week.
