St. Louis, MO – Residents across the St. Louis metro area are in for an unusually warm Christmas week, with temperatures climbing steadily and highs near 70 to 75 degrees possible by Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

According to the NWS, temperatures will begin warming Monday, with daytime highs ranging from 50 to 60 degrees. The warming trend continues Tuesday, when highs are expected to reach 55 to 65 degrees, followed by Wednesday highs between 65 and 70 degrees.

By Christmas Day, forecasters say highs in the 70 to 75 degree range are possible across parts of eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois, including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Madison County, Illinois.

Meteorologists say the warmth could threaten daily temperature records, though exact record values will depend on cloud cover and timing of the warmest air. Normal high temperatures for late December in St. Louis typically sit in the low 40s, making this week’s forecast 20 to 30 degrees above average.

The mild conditions are expected to reduce any winter weather concerns, creating favorable travel conditions for holiday travelers across major corridors like I-70, I-64, and I-55. No snow or ice impacts are currently expected.

Forecasters caution that while the warm temperatures may feel welcome, rapid swings in winter weather are still possible later in the season. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring forecasts for updates as Christmas approaches.
