Springfield, MO – A blast of Arctic air will bring plummeting temperatures and dangerous wind chills to Missouri early next week, with snowfall expected Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will start with decreasing clouds and a high near 27°F. By Monday, mostly sunny skies will offer brief relief, but a strong cold front will sweep through Tuesday, bringing snow showers and a high near 23°F. Overnight temperatures will drop below zero, with wind chills plunging into the -10 to -25°F range by Wednesday morning.

Forecasters warn that accumulating snow on Tuesday could impact travel, particularly along Interstate 44. The heaviest snowfall is expected northwest of the corridor, where up to two inches could accumulate. Bitter cold will persist into midweek, creating hazardous conditions for anyone exposed to the elements.

Residents should prepare for extreme cold by limiting outdoor exposure, dressing in layers, and ensuring pipes and pets are protected. With wind chills this severe, frostbite can occur in minutes.
