St. Louis, MO – Central and northeastern Missouri are preparing for a series of severe thunderstorms expected to hit this afternoon and overnight. These storms bring the potential for damaging winds reaching up to 60 mph.
According to the US National Weather Service in St. Louis, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated this afternoon, primarily east of the Mississippi River. The main concern, however, is the overnight period when a few strong to severe storms are likely across central and northeast Missouri. The most significant threat from these storms is the potential for damaging winds that could cause property damage and power outages.
In addition to the storms, Missouri is set to experience a heatwave starting Monday. The “feel like” temperatures will peak between 100-110°F during the afternoons and remain in the 70s overnight, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to stay cool by visiting cooling centers, reducing outdoor activities, and drinking plenty of water.
The extended forecast shows continued high temperatures through Thursday, with highs reaching the upper 90s and lows staying in the 70s.
