Springfield, MO – Missouri residents face extreme cold today as wind chills drop as low as -20°F, increasing the risk of frostbite. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through Thursday, urging residents to take precautions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield, dangerously low wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. The cold snap follows a winter storm that left several inches of snow across the region. Temperatures today will struggle to climb above the mid-teens, with wind gusts reaching 22 mph.
Looking Ahead:
• Thursday: Sunny but cold, with a high near 16°F. Wind chills remain near -20°F in the morning.
• Friday: A slight warm-up with a high of 28°F under mostly sunny skies.
• Weekend: Temperatures begin rising, with highs reaching the upper 30s Saturday and near 60°F by Monday.
Residents should limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable individuals. Warmer temperatures return by Sunday, offering a brief spring-like reprieve before another potential system next week.
