Springfield, MO – Missouri residents should prepare for an Arctic cold front this weekend, bringing freezing wind chills and dangerous temperatures. Beginning Saturday, highs will drop into the 20s, with nighttime wind chills plummeting below zero through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will see highs ranging from 28 to 36 degrees, but wind chills could dip as low as 10 degrees. Sunday and Monday will be even colder, with highs of 16 to 23 degrees and wind chills as low as -10. Residents are urged to dress in layers, avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals are adequately sheltered.
Friday will bring one last warm day, with highs reaching 56 degrees. However, rain chances increase by Friday afternoon and into the evening, primarily east of Highway 65. Rainfall totals are expected to remain below 0.25 inches, though light showers may mix with snow by late Friday night.
Looking ahead to next week, the bitter cold will persist into Monday, with temperatures staying below freezing. Sunshine returns Tuesday and Wednesday, but lows will remain in the single digits, keeping roads and outdoor surfaces icy.
