Jonesboro, AK – Strong north winds sweeping across northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel Tuesday could make travel difficult and send loose outdoor items tumbling before conditions ease later this evening.
Sustained winds around 25 to 30 mph have already been reported across the region, with stronger gusts nearing 40 mph. According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for parts of northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Cities including Jonesboro, Blytheville, and Corning in Arkansas, along with Kennett in Missouri, are seeing the strongest winds. Drivers along U.S. Highway 63 and Interstate 55 may notice sudden crosswinds, especially in open farmland areas where gusts can push high-profile vehicles such as tractor-trailers and box trucks.
Emergency managers urge residents to secure trash bins, patio furniture, and other loose outdoor items before stronger gusts arrive during the afternoon. Lightweight debris could blow into roadways or power lines as winds peak.
Conditions should gradually improve this evening as the pressure system moves east, though breezy conditions may linger into the overnight hours. Additional advisories are possible if winds remain elevated across the Mid-South.
