Little Rock, AR – Thunderstorms sweeping across the southern and central U.S. have triggered multiple Flash Flood Warnings in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas, with alerts in effect through 7 p.m. CDT and beyond for some regions.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Shreveport, Springfield, and Little Rock, radar indicated between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall had already occurred in many areas as of Wednesday afternoon. Additional rain of up to 1.5 inches is expected, prompting concerns over rapidly rising water levels in low-lying areas, creeks, and roadways.

In Oklahoma, a Flash Flood Warning remains active for McCurtain County and nearby Red River County, Texas, until 7 p.m. after up to 2 inches of rain fell earlier in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, southern Missouri counties including Howell, Douglas, and Ozark are under alert through 9:15 p.m., with West Plains and Gainesville among the towns expected to experience flooding. In some areas, radar shows rainfall totals approaching 3 inches.

The most widespread threat is in Arkansas, where Flash Flood Warnings cover portions of central, western, and north-central counties. Areas such as Pope, Yell, and Marion counties are affected, with flood-prone locations like Russellville, Clarksville, and Mena identified in the warning areas. In addition, northern counties including Baxter and Fulton are under alert until 6:45 p.m.

Emergency officials continue urging drivers to avoid flooded roadways, citing the common phrase: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Most flood-related fatalities occur when vehicles attempt to drive through rising water.

Residents in affected counties should remain alert through the evening hours as conditions may worsen with continuing storms. Updates and warnings will be issued as necessary by the National Weather Service.
