Kansas City, MO – A widespread freeze could threaten crops and outdoor infrastructure across eastern Kansas and central Missouri overnight Sunday into early Monday, with temperatures expected to dip into the upper 20s.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Kansas City and St. Louis, a Freeze Watch is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, April 7. The advisory covers a wide swath of counties including Miami and Linn in Kansas, and Boone, Cole, Callaway, Lafayette, Pettis, Franklin, and several others across Missouri. Lows may fall between 28 and 29 degrees, posing a threat to unprotected vegetation and outdoor plumbing.

Areas at highest risk include Kansas City, Jefferson City, Columbia, Sedalia, and Moberly, where early spring growth may already be underway. Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants, and insulate outdoor faucets and exposed pipes as a precaution.

While April freezes aren’t uncommon, the potential for prolonged sub-freezing temperatures increases the risk of agricultural loss. Gardeners and farmers should monitor local conditions and plan accordingly.

This watch may be upgraded to a warning depending on overnight forecasts. For updates, visit weather.gov/eax or weather.gov/lsx.
