St. Louis, MO – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for portions of Missouri and Illinois, signaling an increased wildfire risk due to strong winds and low humidity. The warning is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. CDT on Friday, March 21.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the affected areas include multiple counties in central, southeastern, and east-central Missouri, as well as southwestern Illinois. Wind speeds are expected to range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Additionally, relative humidity levels could drop as low as 18 percent, creating prime conditions for rapid wildfire spread.
Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution with open flames, avoid outdoor burning, and properly dispose of cigarettes. Dry conditions combined with high winds can cause fires to spread quickly, endangering property and lives.
Fire departments and emergency management officials are on high alert, and residents should stay updated with local authorities for any changes to the warning status. Those in the impacted areas should prepare emergency evacuation plans in case of a wildfire outbreak.
