Jackson, Miss. – Residents across central Mississippi will see little relief from the late-summer heat as temperatures climb into the mid-90s through early next week. Clear skies and dry conditions are expected to keep the region sweltering, especially during peak afternoon hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Friday and Saturday will both bring highs near 94 degrees under full sun, followed by overnight lows in the upper 60s to near 70. Winds will remain light and variable, offering little cooling effect.
By Sunday and Monday, highs are projected to reach 95 and 96 degrees, with Monday standing out as the hottest day of the stretch. Nighttime conditions will stay mild, with lows ranging between 67 and 70, preventing much cooling after sunset. The weather service notes that while skies will stay mostly clear, partly cloudy conditions may develop Sunday night.
The Mississippi Department of Health advises residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors as heat indices may climb higher. With no significant rain expected, soil and vegetation will continue to dry out, potentially stressing crops and lawns across the region.
Hot and sunny conditions are likely to persist into Tuesday, with highs holding near 96 before a slight dip by midweek.
