JACKSON, Miss. – Storms are expected to rumble across central Mississippi through Monday night, bringing periods of rain, thunder, and gusty winds before calmer weather settles in midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, scattered showers will continue overnight with a 30 percent chance of rain and lows near 73°F. Thunderstorms become more likely Monday afternoon and evening, with a 50 percent chance of precipitation and highs near 86°F. Winds from the east-southeast could gust up to 20 mph.
Localized downpours may cause brief ponding on roads in Hinds, Rankin, and Madison counties. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously during heavy rain and avoid flooded intersections.
By Tuesday, only isolated showers are expected, with highs near 88°F. Conditions turn drier and sunnier by Wednesday as high pressure builds, bringing calm, breezy weather through the end of the week.
Sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s will return by Thursday and Friday, with clear nights and lows dipping into the 60s.
