Jackson, MS – A warm and wetter-than-normal pattern is expected across Mississippi from Nov. 29th through Dec. 5th, bringing multiple rounds of steady rain statewide as early December begins.

According to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures are forecast to run above normal across all of Mississippi, including the capital region around Jackson, the northern counties near Tupelo and Oxford, and the southern coastline stretching toward Gulfport and Biloxi. With warm Gulf air entrenched across the region, all precipitation will fall as rain, with no threat of early-season winter weather.

NOAA’s precipitation outlook also shows a strong above-normal precipitation signal, suggesting several disturbances may track through the Lower Mississippi Valley throughout the upcoming week. Jackson, Madison, and Rankin counties may see frequent rain, with heavier downpours possible during peak system passages.

Southern Mississippi — including Hattiesburg, Pascagoula, Long Beach, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast — may experience the highest rainfall totals, especially when stronger Gulf moisture plumes push inland.

Northern Mississippi — including Southaven, Olive Branch, Corinth, and Starkville — will also see steady rainfall, though rainfall amounts may be slightly lighter than in the south.

Forecasters emphasize that this wet stretch is not the result of one major storm but a multi-system pattern, leading to slippery roads, ponding, and reduced visibility, particularly along I-55, I-20, and coastal highways.

As early December approaches, residents across Mississippi should prepare for a warm, humid, and rain-heavy week.
