Jackson, MS – Severe storms and heavy rainfall are expected to impact much of Mississippi Monday night into early Tuesday morning, bringing threats of flash flooding, damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.
Forecasters have issued a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for parts of western and central Mississippi, including Vicksburg, Yazoo City, and Greenwood, where damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and tornadoes are possible. Areas farther east—including Jackson, Meridian, and Philadelphia—remain under a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) for isolated severe storms.
Rainfall totals of 3–4 inches, with locally higher amounts, are possible overnight, increasing the potential for localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying and urban areas. The heaviest rain and storms are forecast between 8 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, before additional storms redevelop late Tuesday morning.
Residents are urged to stay alert, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and avoid flooded roads. Conditions should gradually improve by Tuesday night as the system exits to the east.
