Jackson, MS – Summer is holding on across Mississippi this week, with high temperatures running 5 to 7 degrees above seasonal averages, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

Forecasters said Monday that most central and southern Mississippi cities will see highs in the low to mid-90s through September 22. Greenville is forecast to hit 96 degrees early in the week, while Hattiesburg, Jackson, and Meridian will remain in the 91–93 degree range.

According to the National Weather Service, this stretch of warmer-than-normal weather is expected to continue even as the fall season officially begins on September 23. A 6–10 day outlook map shows much of the United States, including Mississippi, shaded in “above normal” probability zones, suggesting the region could stay warmer than usual into late September.

Residents in Brookhaven, Vicksburg, and Starkville can expect highs near 90 degrees through the weekend, with only slight relief possible by early next week when temperatures may dip into the upper 80s.

The NWS emphasized that while conditions remain hot, humidity levels combined with afternoon heat could still create uncomfortable outdoor conditions. Those planning outdoor activities are urged to stay hydrated and limit time in direct sun.
