Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents are enjoying sunny skies this weekend, but a significant weather shift is expected early next week. Forecasters warn of gusty winds and the potential for isolated severe storms starting Monday afternoon, with areas west of I-55 at higher risk.
According to the National Weather Service, the cold front moving into the region will bring strong wind gusts of up to 40 mph, particularly between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday. A marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms includes damaging winds capable of downing trees and impacting travel. High-profile vehicles are advised to exercise caution on major roadways such as I-55 and I-20.
Sunday’s weather will remain calm, with partly sunny skies and a high of 76 degrees. Overnight, temperatures will dip into the low 60s, providing a brief respite before the active weather pattern begins Monday.
By Monday night, showers and thunderstorms are likely, with some storms possibly becoming severe. Rainfall could total up to an inch in some locations. Tuesday morning will see lingering rain, but conditions should improve by afternoon with highs near 78 degrees. Winds will shift northwestward by Tuesday night, signaling cooler, drier air by midweek.
Residents should secure outdoor objects, monitor local forecasts, and prepare for potential power outages. The National Weather Service recommends staying indoors during periods of high wind and heavy rainfall.
Looking ahead, Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies and cooler highs in the low 60s, offering relief after the stormy start to the week.
