JACKSON, Miss. – Thick morning fog rolls through the capital city this Monday, dimming headlights and blurring outlines along I-20 and U.S. 49. The damp, heavy air will lift through midmorning before a mild, partly sunny stretch gives way to a stormier pattern Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Monday stays mostly calm with highs near 73 degrees and a light northwest breeze. Patchy fog could reduce visibility below a half mile in rural spots until around 9 a.m., so drivers should slow down and keep headlights on low beam. By late Tuesday, a stronger system pushes in from the west, bringing widespread showers, isolated thunderstorms, and gusts up to 25 mph.

Rain will be heaviest Tuesday evening through early Wednesday, especially along and north of I-20, where localized ponding could affect the morning commute. Storms are not expected to be severe, but lightning and brief downpours may disrupt outdoor plans. Highs Tuesday reach the mid-70s before cooler air filters in Wednesday, dropping temperatures back toward 60.

By Thursday, high pressure returns with sunshine, drier air, and comfortable highs near 65 degrees — perfect timing for late-October events and Halloween prep. Trick-or-treaters can expect clear skies Friday evening, light winds, and sunset readings near 58 degrees — ideal for costumes and outdoor festivities.

Long-range outlooks hint that a chillier November pattern may develop next week, bringing the Deep South its first taste of true fall air.
