JACKSON, Miss. – A blanket of humid air and thick early fog greets central Mississippi this Tuesday morning, but change is brewing. The first drops of rain will mark the start of a wet, blustery stretch tonight, followed by a quick clearing just in time for Halloween.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, patchy fog will linger through midmorning before showers and storms build from the southwest late today. Rain will turn steady and locally heavy Tuesday night as winds strengthen from the southeast, gusting to 25 mph. Ponding may occur on secondary roads and along stretches of I-20, especially near Clinton and Pearl.

Showers continue into Wednesday with a few rumbles of thunder and periods of gusty wind. Temperatures will fall into the 60s by afternoon as the front pushes east. Skies begin clearing Wednesday night as cooler, drier air filters in from the north, setting the stage for a sunny Thursday and a refreshing drop in humidity.

By Friday, Halloween brings sunshine, light breezes, and comfortable highs in the mid-60s — perfect weather for trick-or-treaters across metro neighborhoods. Evening temperatures will settle near 50°F, cool enough for a light jacket but far from chilly.

The weekend continues pleasant, with highs near 70°F Saturday and clear skies dominating through Sunday. After all, this brief autumn calm may not last — a chillier November is waiting just over the horizon.
