Jackson, MS – Isolated severe storms remain a concern across central and western Mississippi from late Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. A Level 1 Marginal Risk has been issued, signaling the potential for a few stronger storms within an otherwise low-end setup.

According to the agency, the main hazards include damaging wind gusts, hail up to quarter-size, and a tornado that cannot be ruled out. While coverage of severe storms is expected to be limited, any storm that becomes strong may quickly produce hazardous conditions.

Communities including Yazoo City, Vicksburg, Greenville, Jackson, Brookhaven, and Meridian are included in the marginal risk area. The greatest chance for organized storms arrives late Monday evening, continuing overnight and into the Tuesday afternoon timeframe as moisture deepens ahead of an approaching disturbance.

Forecasters urge residents to stay updated on the latest outlooks and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings, especially during overnight hours when many people are asleep. Even lower-end severe setups can produce impactful storms capable of downing trees, damaging structures, or causing brief power outages.

The National Weather Service notes that confidence in widespread severe weather remains low, but environmental conditions do support isolated stronger storms. Residents should be prepared for quickly changing weather, particularly along major travel routes leading into the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Conditions are expected to improve Tuesday evening as the system moves east.
