JACKSON, Miss. – A warm, muggy weekend across central Mississippi could turn stormy by Sunday, as fall thunderstorms approach from the west. Temperatures near 90°F Friday and Saturday will give way to scattered showers and a quick cool-down that will finally make it feel like mid-October again.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a strong southerly flow will keep humidity high through Saturday afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph along the I-55 and I-20 corridors. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely late Saturday into early Sunday, producing brief downpours that could slow travel for churchgoers and early commuters.

Drivers should stay alert for slick pavement and gusty winds, particularly near Clinton, Pearl, and Brandon. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency urges residents to secure loose outdoor decorations and fall displays before Saturday night, as winds could topple lightweight items.

By Sunday afternoon, cooler and drier air will sweep in behind the front, dropping highs into the mid-70s and setting up a comfortable stretch of sunshine through midweek. Monday looks ideal for outdoor work, fall festivals, and pumpkin patch visits, with bright skies and light breezes expected.

Looking ahead, temperatures stay mild into midweek before another weak front brushes the area Tuesday night, bringing only a slight chance of showers. Fall’s first real chill may arrive by the end of next week if northern air finally breaks southward.
