Jackson, MS – Residents across the Mississippi Delta should prepare for the potential of severe weather Wednesday, with damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour forecasted.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) has been issued for much of northern and western Mississippi, including Greenville, Greenwood, and Yazoo City. The agency says isolated severe storms could develop from Wednesday morning into the afternoon, bringing strong winds and the chance of hail up to a quarter size.

This is the first time in several weeks the weather service has issued a multi-day severe outlook for the area. While rain will be welcomed in drought-stricken portions of the state, forecasters stress that damaging winds remain the primary threat.

Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to monitor updates and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts in case warnings are issued. Timing of the storms may affect both morning and midday travel, particularly on highways in the Delta and central Mississippi.

The NWS recommends staying informed through weather radios, alerts, and official social media updates to stay safe as the system approaches.
