Jackson, Mississippi – Mississippi is moving into a quieter but more variable weather pattern late January into early February, with noticeable temperature swings expected as a lingering cold front remains nearby but precipitation chances stay minimal.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the Jan. 24–Feb. 6 outlook places Mississippi in an equal-chance category for temperatures and precipitation. This setup favors fluctuating conditions rather than prolonged cold or warmth, with dry air limiting rain potential across the state.

Central Mississippi, including Jackson, Madison, and Pearl, could see temperatures shift several degrees from day to day as cooler air briefly filters south before milder conditions return. These swings may be most noticeable between overnight lows and afternoon highs, creating chilly mornings followed by relatively mild afternoons.

North Mississippi, including Tupelo and Oxford, may feel sharper cool-downs when colder air pushes south, while southern Mississippi, including Hattiesburg and the Gulf Coast, is expected to remain milder overall with less pronounced temperature drops. Despite the variability, no organized rain systems are currently favored during this period.

The main impacts will involve planning around changing temperatures rather than travel or storm concerns. Residents may need to adjust outdoor plans and dress in layers, especially during early mornings and evenings.

This pattern of temperature variability is expected to continue into early February. While precipitation chances remain low, additional updates may be issued if the cold front becomes more active or shifts position.
