Jackson, Mississippi – Strong winds sweeping across the Mississippi Delta could bring down tree limbs and pose a hazard to high-profile vehicles through late Tuesday afternoon, especially in areas west of the Mississippi River.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, sustained winds around 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected from late this morning into the evening. The risk zone covers Greenville, Vicksburg, Yazoo City, and other communities west of I-55, including parts of northeast Louisiana like Bastrop and Hamburg.

Drivers along U.S. Highways 61 and 82 should stay alert for sudden wind bursts, particularly in open areas or near tree-lined stretches. The winds could snap weak branches, increasing the risk of downed power lines and road debris. High-profile vehicles, such as box trucks and RVs, may have difficulty maintaining control in gusty conditions.

While skies will stay partly sunny and highs range from the upper 80s to low 90s, residents in the affected areas should secure loose outdoor items and avoid parking under trees today.

Wind advisories may be updated or expanded depending on the storm’s progression. Another update from the NWS is expected later this afternoon.
