Gulfport, Mississippi – Spring break travelers heading to Mississippi’s Gulf Coast may encounter an unexpected chill as a cold front drops overnight temperatures to around 45°F between March 16 and March 20 across the Gulfport and Biloxi area.

The cooler air pushing south across the Deep South could bring noticeably brisk mornings along the coast during the first official week of spring, especially for visitors expecting warmer beach weather.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a broad stretch of the eastern United States—from Minnesota down to East Texas and east to the Atlantic coast—shows a 60–70% probability of below-normal temperatures during that timeframe. The colder air mass will reach parts of the Gulf Coast as the front slides south through the Mississippi Valley.

Communities along the coast including Gulfport, Biloxi, and Long Beach could see overnight temperatures dipping into the mid-40s, particularly during clear nights when cooler air settles in behind the front.

Daytime highs may rebound into the 60s, but those readings will still run below typical mid-March averages for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Drivers traveling along Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 90 during spring break should prepare for cooler early-morning conditions near the shoreline where breezes off the Gulf of Mexico may add an extra chill.

Visitors heading to Biloxi Beach, Gulf Islands National Seashore, and coastal casinos along Highway 90 should plan for jacket weather during early mornings and evenings before temperatures warm during the afternoon.

The cooler pattern may persist through March 20, and additional updates could follow if the cold air mass continues pushing farther south across the Gulf Coast during the opening days of spring.
