Jackson, Mississippi – Isolated severe thunderstorms could sweep across central, southern, and eastern Mississippi Monday afternoon, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail as large as quarters.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a marginal risk (Level 1) of severe storms will continue through 9 p.m., with the greatest threats being damaging straight-line winds and hail impacts. Cities including Jackson, Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Philadelphia are within the risk zone.
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware, especially during the evening commute. Outdoor items should be secured, and drivers are advised to avoid travel during active storms due to the potential for sudden gusts and poor visibility. Power outages are also possible where winds are strongest.
While the storms are expected to remain scattered, even isolated cells could cause localized damage. The impacted zone stretches from Vicksburg and Brookhaven to Columbus and Greenwood, affecting parts of major corridors such as I-55 and I-20.
Conditions are expected to improve later tonight, but more storm chances could return later this week.
