Jackson, MS – A sunny and warm Saturday across Mississippi is expected to give way to severe weather conditions on Sunday, with a heightened risk of damaging storms stretching from the Delta region to central Mississippi.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a slight risk for severe thunderstorms begins Sunday afternoon and lasts into Sunday night. Areas including Jackson, Greenwood, Yazoo City, and Vicksburg are under this risk zone. Forecasters warn that damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls could impact the region.
The area designated under “Slight Risk” (Level 2 of 5) includes northern and central counties, while a “Marginal Risk” zone covers parts of the southern region, including Meridian and Philadelphia.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, stay weather-aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Strong winds may down trees or power lines, while large hail can damage vehicles, roofs, and crops.
