Jackson, Miss. – Damaging winds and isolated severe storms are expected across parts of Mississippi this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk stretching along and northwest of the Natchez Trace corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Marginal (Level 1) risk is in effect for areas including Yazoo City, Greenville, Greenwood, and up to Columbus. The threat window runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, with damaging winds up to 60 mph being the primary hazard. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out, especially in areas of stronger convection.

Localized heavy rain may also cause visibility issues on roads like Highway 82, I-55, and Highway 61, especially during the evening commute. Cities like Vicksburg, Eupora, and Philadelphia could see pop-up storms capable of knocking down tree limbs or power lines.

Residents in impacted areas should secure outdoor items, stay weather-aware, and avoid unnecessary travel during active storms. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and charge devices ahead of time in case of power outages.

More storms may develop later in the week as summer instability lingers. Stay tuned for additional advisories if conditions worsen.
